Service BOM (SBOM)

Definition and Application Scenarios

Service BOM (SBOM) aggregates material data used during product servicing. It serves exclusively as a maintenance reference and cannot be used to query device configuration information.

SBOM helps service centers and engineers streamline the cumbersome process of retrieving maintenance BOMs. It also enables engineers and spare parts administrators to quickly identify required materials for repairs, facilitating timely spare parts requests to headquarters.

Prerequisites for Enabling Service BOM

Service BOM is an advanced feature within the Spare Parts Management module. The following conditions must be met to enable it:

  1. You must activate Advanced Mode in Spare Parts Management and use the new version of spare parts consumption. Service BOM cannot be enabled in Simple Mode or Standard Mode.
  2. CPQ must be enabled before activating Service BOM.

Both conditions are mandatory.

How to Enable Service BOM

Once the prerequisites are met, navigate to the Spare Parts Management menu. You will see the Service BOM submenu, where you can enable the feature.

Note: Once enabled, Service BOM cannot be disabled.

Creating a New Service BOM

  • The Service BOM entry is available under the Spare Parts Management menu.
  • The Service BOM list page only displays BOMs with “BOM Type = Configuration BOM” and “BOM Purpose = Service BOM.”

  • When creating a new BOM from the Service BOM entry:
    • The BOM Type is automatically set to “Configuration BOM” and cannot be modified.
    • The BOM Purpose is automatically set to “Service BOM” and cannot be modified.
  • When saving a BOM from any entry:
    • If the BOM Purpose is “Service BOM,” the BOM Type must be “Configuration BOM”; otherwise, the system will reject the save.

Material Requisition Based on Service BOM

When creating a Material Requisition Order, you can add materials based on Service BOM. Click “Add from Service BOM”:

1) If no Work Order is specified, the pop-up displays all BOMs with “BOM Type = Configuration BOM” and “BOM Purpose = Service BOM.”
2) If a Work Order is specified, the system matches Service BOMs in the following sequence: Multi-Device → Single Device → Product.

Submitting Spare Parts Requests Based on Service BOM

When creating a spare parts request, you can add items based on Service BOM.

Selecting New Spare Parts Based on Service BOM During Consumption

picture coming soon:

When creating a spare parts consumption record, after selecting a New Part consumption warehouse, click “Add from Service BOM”:

  • The system matches Service BOMs in the following sequence: Work Order → Multi-Device → Single Device → Product (where the product matches the BOM’s parent product name, and the BOM Type = Configuration BOM, BOM Purpose = Service BOM).
  • You can select multiple products from multiple Service BOMs. After selection, click “Confirm”:
    • The system matches available inventory records (with quantity > 0) from the New Part consumption warehouse and populates the corresponding fields in the spare parts consumption details.

Exploded View Mode for Spare Parts Selection

picture coming soon:

Under Spare Parts Management → Service BOM, you will find the “Product Exploded View” option. To enable this feature, you must first purchase the “OCR Text Recognition Resource Pack - General Recognition Type (High-Precision Location).”

picture coming soon:

After enabling the exploded view feature, click “Configure Exploded View” in the top-right corner of the Service BOM details page to access the configuration interface.

In the configuration interface (with sufficient OCR recognition credits), the system automatically identifies part numbers from the exploded view. Match these numbers with the “Drawing Number” field in the left-hand Service BOM list to complete the mapping.

Once configured, you can select spare parts in exploded view mode when creating requests or other documents:

  • Selecting a part in the exploded view automatically checks the corresponding product in the Service BOM details.
  • Selecting a product in the Service BOM details highlights the corresponding part in the exploded view.
