Create a chart

This page describes how to create and edit a chart.

Before you begin

[!IMPORTANT] Confirm that you have BI page access. Creating, editing, or managing a chart also requires the corresponding permissions.

Create a chart from a predefined template

The product provides chart templates for different Business Category values. Select a template that matches your Business Scenario.
  • Template description: Each chart is based on a business domain. For example, Account Analysis can analyze Sales Order proportions by account level, account transactions by level, and account follow-up trends.
  • Use a chart template: When you select New Chart, the system opens the predefined templates. Select a business domain and a chart template for your scenario.
  • Create all charts: Creates one chart for every latest system template. The operation fails when the chart category already exists. When you add the ShareCRM application, the system creates all charts from the predefined templates by default.

Configure a chart

The following example shows how to configure a chart for a requirement to analyze the progress of this month’s VIP account projects.
Configure a chart

Step 1: Break down the requirement

  • Business requirement: Analyze project progress for VIP accounts in each region this month.
  • Business metrics: New accounts, accounts with projects, projects, project contract amount, and average project amount.
  • CRM metrics: New accounts, accounts from new opportunities, opportunities, opportunity amount, and average opportunity amount.
Break down the requirement

Step 2: Determine dimensions, metrics, and Data Range

  • Dimension: Defines how to view data and corresponds to the X-axis. Examples include department, person, region, industry, status, type, and date. In this example, Region and Sales Representative are dimensions.
  • Metric: Defines the quantity or amount to view and corresponds to the Y-axis. In this example, New Accounts, Accounts with Projects, Projects, Project Contract Amount, and Average Project Amount are metrics.
  • Calculated metric: Performs calculations on metrics. For example, Average Order Amount equals Order Amount divided by Account Count. In this example, Average Project Amount equals Project Contract Amount divided by Projects.
  • Data Range: Limits the records to view, such as Date = This Year or Life Status = Active. In this example, Usage Date = This Month and Account Level = Key Account.
Determine dimensions, metrics, and Data Range

Step 3: Select a business domain

Dimensions often determine the required business domain. When a dimension is shared by multiple domains, use the fields in the Data Range to select the domain.
  • In this example, Region and Sales Representative are dimensions, while Date and Account Level are Data Range fields. Because Region, Sales Representative, and Date are common fields, select the Account business domain based on Account Level.
  • Entry points for creating a business domain:
    • CRM > Data Analysis > Metric Management > New Business Domain
    • CRM > Data Analysis > Reports > Metric Management > New Business Domain

When creating a business domain, select the correct analysis object. Select the predefined Account business domain in this example. Create a new domain only when no suitable domain exists.

Step 4: Select metrics

Check whether the predefined metrics meet the analysis requirements. Create metrics when they do not.
  • In this example, New Accounts is predefined. Accounts with Projects, Projects, and Project Contract Amount must be created. Average Project Amount is calculated from other metrics.
  • To create a metric, open the metric list for the selected business domain and select New Metric.

  • After your enterprise enables multiple time zones, you can set a metric time zone. The tenant time zone is used by default. The time zone cannot be selected when Aggregate Date is empty. If the field does not support multiple time zones, the time zone is fixed to Business Event Time Zone. Changing the time zone triggers metric initialization.

For more information, see Manage statistic metrics.

Step 5: Configure the chart

  • Entry point: CRM > Data Analysis > Reports > New Chart > Choose a Business Domain > Account Analysis > Configure.
  • Drag the dimensions and metrics identified in Step 2 to the corresponding slots. You can also configure metric display formats.
Open the chart configuration page

  • Drag Date, Owner’s Primary Department, and Account Level to the Data Range.
Configure the Data Range
  • After your enterprise enables multiple time zones, you can switch the chart time zone in the designer. Switching time zones clears configured metrics. You can select only metrics with the same time zone, metrics with an empty Aggregate Date, or metrics that do not use multiple time zones.
Switch the chart time zone
  • Configure appearance and functions as needed. For details, see Chart type reference.
  • Select Apply to finish the configuration.

Designer operations

Configure visible dimensions

CRM administrators and report administrators can hide unnecessary dimensions by business domain. This is a domain-level setting that applies to all employees who use the domain.

Switch chart types

Available chart types depend on the number of dimensions and metrics. See Chart type reference.

Attribute dimensions

When you drag the primary attribute field of the business domain into the Dimension slot, you can enable an attribute dimension. For graphical charts, the attribute dimension appears only when you display a statistic table. For table charts, it appears directly in the chart. Removing the primary attribute field from the grouping dimensions disables the attribute dimension.

Enable a secondary axis

Use a secondary axis mainly for dual-axis charts to display multiple metrics on separate axes.
Enable a secondary axis

Set a drill-down path

You can configure a drill-down path for a dimension field:
  • Select a drill-down field: Select a dimension when drilling down or choose View Details directly.
  • Fixed drill-down path: Define the fields and order in the chart configuration. The chart drills down along the configured path when selected.
  • No drill-down: Select a metric to view its details directly.
Set a drill-down path

Add a calculated metric

Perform mixed +, -, *, /, (), and || operations on existing metrics to create a calculated metric. You can calculate totals and subtotals by formula or by summing detail records. Calculated metrics also support drill-down to details.

Format values

  • Default: Uses the default metric display.
  • Numeric: Displays a numeric value and lets you set decimal places, units, thousand separators, a plus sign for positive values, and prefixes or suffixes.
  • Percentage: Displays the metric as a percentage.
  • Duration: Displays the metric as a duration.
  • Metric tooltip: Shows the detail value or formatted value.

Compare periods

You can configure year-over-year or month-over-month comparisons when the dimension or Data Range uses a date. Supported comparison types depend on the selected date granularity.

Calculate cumulative values

You can configure cumulative values when the only dimension is one date or date-time field.
Configure cumulative values

Calculate proportions

Configure a metric to show each row’s share of the total. This option currently supports global proportions only.

Rank metrics

Configure global or group ranking, continuous or non-continuous tied ranks, and ascending or descending order.

Configure appearance and functions

Chart styles depend on the selected chart type. You can configure axis names, label angles, and Display Order. Available functions also depend on the chart type. Date Time fields support date formatting.

Configure filter scenarios

BI provides predefined filter scenarios for each chart. Select the scenario tab that viewers should use by default.

Format dates

For date and date-time dimensions, configure formats for year, quarter, month, week, and day.

Expected result and verification

After completing the configuration, check the result in the relevant report, chart, or joined report. If a field, metric, or entry is unavailable, confirm that the selected business domain, Data Range, and permissions are correct.
