Target management permissions

Target Management Permissions

Overview

Target permission management controls employees’ ability to view, edit, import, and export goal values. With a well-designed permission configuration, your enterprise keeps goal-setting responsibilities clear while letting relevant personnel track goal progress.

Permission System Structure

Goal value permissions have two dimensions: operation permissions and data permissions.
Operation permissions:
Operation Description
View Controls visibility of the Goal Value menu entry
Edit Controls the ability to edit goal values (affected by the Allow Personal Goal Editing rule)
Import Controls the ability to bulk-import goal values
Export Controls the ability to export goal value data
Data permissions: Data permissions determine the Data Range of goal values a user can see. They follow the object data permissions of the corresponding dimension:
Goal Dimension Data Permission Basis
Personnel goal Object data permissions for personnel (org structure permissions + sharing)
Account goal Account scope visible on the account list page
Product goal Product scope visible on the product list page
Partner goal Partner scope visible on the partner list page

Goal Admin Role

The system provides a preset Goal Admin role. Employees with this role can see all goal rules and goal values of the enterprise in the frontend. This fits scenarios where a dedicated person manages all enterprise goal settings.
To also manage goal rules in the backend, configure Goal Rule functional permissions in role permission management.

Before You Begin

[!IMPORTANT] - Role permissions: You need CRM admin permissions. - Prerequisite configuration: Goal rules have been created.

Edit Permission

Edit permission is determined by two factors together:
  1. Whether the role has Edit permission on the Goal Value object.
  2. Whether the goal rule has Allow Personal Goal Editing checked.
Edit Permission Allow Personal Goal Editing Effect
No Any Cannot edit
Yes Checked Regular employees can edit their own goals. Supervisors can edit subordinates’ goals. Department heads can edit the goals of department employees and the department. Supervisors and department heads can both edit shared personnel goal values
Yes Unchecked Regular employees cannot edit their own goals. Supervisors can edit subordinates’ goals. Department heads can set goals for department employees (but not for their own department). Parent department heads can set goals for sub-departments. Shared personnel goal values cannot be edited

Configuration Steps

  1. Go to Setup > Role Permission Management > Manage Object Permissions.
  2. Select the target role.
  3. Find the Goal Value object.
  4. Configure operation permissions such as Edit, Import, and Export.
  5. Click Save.

Import and Export Permissions

Configure these with the Import and Export toggles in the role’s Goal Value functional permissions.

Goal Value Menu Visibility

When a role has View permission on the Goal Value object, the Goal Value menu entry is visible.

Configure Goal Value Data Permissions

Whose Goal Values Are Visible

Determined by the object data permissions of the corresponding dimension:
  • Personnel: Org structure permissions (visible subordinates, managed departments) + shared personnel object data. Sharing a person grants access to that person’s goal value data.
  • Account: If an account is visible on the account list page, its goal values are visible.
  • Product: If a product is visible on the product list page, its goal values are visible.
  • Partner: If a partner is visible on the partner list page, its goal values are visible.

Goal Rule Visibility

A user can see goal rules whose applicable scope includes themselves, their subordinates, or departments they manage, and that have visible personnel, account, or product goal values. The user can only view goal value data within their own data permissions under those rules.

Configure the Goal Admin Role

Goal Admin Permission Scope

Employees with the Goal Admin role can see all goal rules and goal values of the enterprise in the frontend and can operate on them.

Configure Backend Goal Rule Permissions

If goal admins also need to manage goal rules in the backend:
  1. Go to Setup > Role Permission Management > Manage Functional Permissions.
  2. Add a management role.
  3. Find the Goal Rule feature.
  4. Configure View, New, Edit, and Delete permissions.
  5. After saving, assign this role to the goal admin.

How to Verify

  1. Log in as a user with the configured role.
  2. Open Target Management and confirm the visible goal rules and Data Range match expectations.
  3. Test operation permissions such as Edit, Import, and Export.

Notes

  • The Goal Admin role is preset by the system. No manual creation is needed.
  • Sharing a personnel object’s data only grants access to that person’s goal values and completion values. It does not grant access to all associated business data.
  • The Allow Personal Goal Editing setting on a goal rule is independent of role permissions. The two together determine the final editing ability.
