View and maintain the opportunity decision chain
Overview
Opportunity Contacts record Account personnel participating in a project. The Opportunity Decision Chain shows key stakeholders and their decision relationships. Together, they help sales representatives identify coverage gaps and plan the next contact.

Before you begin
Before you begin - You need the required permissions for Opportunity, Contact, Opportunity Contact, and Opportunity Decision Chain. - Your administrator has added the Opportunity Decision Chain component to the Opportunity Details Page Layout. - Create or update the Account Contacts before adding them to the Opportunity.
Maintain Opportunity Contacts
Opportunity Contact is a Related Object between Opportunity and Contact. It is also the personnel Source for the Decision Chain.
- Open the target Opportunity details page.
- In the Opportunity Contact section, add or select an existing Contact.
- Enter the Contact’s project role, attitude, or other configured information.
- Save the record and confirm that the Contact appears under the Opportunity.
If the person does not exist, create a Contact and associate it with the Opportunity’s Account. Available fields and options depend on your organization’s configuration.
View the Decision Chain
- Find Opportunity Decision Chain Component on the Opportunity details page.
- Review Contacts, nodes, and connections in the relationship graph.
- Use your organization’s node, role, and relationship definitions to identify stakeholder coverage and gaps.

Edit the Decision Chain
- Click Edit in the Opportunity Decision Chain component.
- Create or adjust nodes and connections to match the project relationships.
- Place each Opportunity Contact in the appropriate node.
- Save the map and confirm that stakeholders and relationship positions are correct.

Verify the result
- The Opportunity Contact section displays current project participants.
- Everyone in the Decision Chain comes from the current Opportunity Contacts.
- Nodes, roles, and relationship positions match the actual project.
