Create an opportunity
Overview
An Opportunity records a sales opportunity that may produce a transaction. Enter the Associated Account, expected Opportunity Amount, Estimated Closing Date, and Sales Process to support Stage Advancement, analysis, and forecasting.
Before you begin
Before you begin - You need permission to create Opportunities. - Create and verify the Associated Account first, when possible. - Creating an Opportunity may trigger Duplicate Check, Creation Approval, and Opportunity Retention Limit validation.
Create an Opportunity
Create from the Opportunity list
- Open the Opportunity list and click New.
- Enter the Opportunity Name and select the Associated Account.
- Enter the Estimated Closing Date, expected amount, Sales Process, and other required information.
- Click Save.
Create from Account details
- Open the target Account details page.
- Find Opportunities in the related objects and click New.
- Verify the Associated Account populated by the system.
- Enter the remaining required information and click Save.
Business processes such as Lead conversion can also create an Opportunity. Available entry points depend on your organization’s configuration.
Handle Duplicate Check results
Administrators can configure New Duplicate Check rules to identify duplicate registrations or parallel follow-up on the same project.
- If a warning rule matches, review similar Opportunities before deciding whether to continue.
- If a blocking rule matches, the system does not save the Opportunity.
- If the records represent the same project, contact the current Opportunity owner or sales manager to coordinate follow-up.
Duplicate Check fields, visible information, and results depend on your administrator’s configuration.
Handle Creation Approval
If your administrator configured Creation Approval, saving or submitting the Opportunity starts the applicable Approval Process. Enter the requested information and track progress in the Approval Record.
Editable fields and the status after Approval Pass or rejection depend on your organization’s process configuration.
Handle Opportunity Retention Limit validation
Your organization can limit the Opportunity Quantity owned by a sales representative, department, or user group. The system may validate this limit during creation, assignment, import, or Change Owner.
When you reach the limit, close or reassign Opportunities that you no longer own. You can also ask your administrator to confirm the applicable rule. Opportunity conditions and rule configuration determine which records count toward the limit.
Verify the result
- The new Opportunity appears in the Opportunity list.
- The Opportunity is associated with the correct Account.
- The Opportunity uses the correct Sales Process and initial Opportunity Stage.
- Duplicate Check, Approval, and Opportunity Retention Limit rules run as configured.
