Get started with the opportunity process
Complete Stage Tasks and advance an Opportunity through the Sales Process.

After completing this tutorial, you can review the Opportunity Stage, complete Stage Tasks, and advance an Opportunity.
Before you begin
Before you begin - You need permission to view and edit the target Opportunity. - The Opportunity is associated with a valid Sales Process. - Prepare an in-progress Opportunity for this tutorial.
Follow the Opportunity process
Step 1: Review the current stage
- Open the Opportunity list.
- Open the Opportunity that you want to advance.
- In the Stage Advancement section, confirm the Sales Process and current Opportunity Stage.
- Review the current Stage Tasks, Completion Criteria, and page instructions.

Step 2: Update project data
Update the following data to reflect actual progress:
- Opportunity Amount, Estimated Closing Date, and other Opportunity fields.
- Opportunity Line Items for the current solution.
- Opportunity Contacts participating in the project.
- Other related Business Data required by the current stage.
Save your changes and confirm that the displayed information matches the project.
Step 3: Complete Stage Tasks
- Open a Pending task in the current stage.
- Edit fields, create a Related Object, or maintain Opportunity Line Items as required.
- Save the result.
- Return to the Stage Task section and confirm that required tasks are completed.
If an incomplete task is part of the Completion Criteria, the system prevents the Opportunity from leaving the current stage.
Step 4: Advance the Opportunity
- Select the next stage in the Stage Advancement section.
- Enter the information required by the target stage.
- If Stage Approval starts, submit the request and wait for the Processing Result and Approval Decision.
- After validation passes, confirm the stage change.
If the system blocks progression, use the message to identify the issue:
| Message | Resolution |
|---|---|
| Task Not Completed | Return to the current stage and complete required tasks |
| Entry Criteria not met | Add the fields or related data required by the target stage |
| Stage cannot be skipped | Advance in Sales Process order |
| Stage Approval required | Submit the request and wait for the Approval Decision |
Step 5: Verify the result
- The Opportunity is in the expected stage.
- Opportunity Line Items and Opportunity Contacts match the current project.
- Required Stage Tasks show Completed.
- The stage change record matches the actual progression time.
Continue to update the Opportunity Stage, Opportunity Amount, Estimated Closing Date, and key Contacts during follow-up.
