Attribute-based quoting and ordering
Overview
Attribute-based quoting and ordering determine whether the front-end experience is truly practical. When product parameters, price, and configuration results can all be confirmed in a single flow, both order-entry efficiency and quote accuracy improve significantly.
Before you begin
[!IMPORTANT] - Permissions required: You need permission to operate quote or order line items. - Prerequisites: The target product has completed attribute association, and the attribute price book is already effective. - Dependencies: If the product also uses Sales BOM, confirm that the combination structure and constraint rules are already available.
Step 1: Select the product and review available attributes
These scenarios usually have the following characteristics:
- The customer is not buying a single fixed specification.
- Parameter differences affect the transaction price.
- The final order must clearly record the configuration chosen by the customer.
When sales select the product during order entry, they also need to choose attribute values. The system then performs two types of work based on the attribute price book:
- Return the price result
- Display the selected attributes and values in the list
If the business also uses Sales BOM, sales may continue with component configuration after choosing attributes.
The page examples add three important usability points:
- In the default mode, attributes and values are displayed directly in the line item.
- The business can switch to other configuration modes in the back office, so the front-end experience is not limited to one pattern.
- Mobile ordering also displays attribute configuration results, although the layout differs from the PC version.
Step 2: Choose attributes and confirm the price change
- Select the target product on a quote or order.
- Review the available attributes and value ranges displayed by the system.
- Choose attribute values according to the customer’s needs.
- Confirm that the price updates automatically when attributes change.
- If the product also includes a combination structure, continue to configure child items, quantities, and other options.
- Before submitting, review the attribute result, pricing result, and combination result in the document.
If the product also uses Sales BOM, the PC interface indicates another important point: sales may need to configure not only the parent item’s attributes, but also continue into the combination configuration page to handle child items, quantities, and pricing.
Step 3: Review the combination result and submit
After quoting or ordering is complete, confirm at least three things:
- The customer’s selected attributes and values have been recorded.
- The price changes match the attribute price-book rules.
- The final document is sufficient to support delivery and internal confirmation later.
Result check
Attribute selection results can appear not only in the default mode but also in combination with other product-configuration modes. In other words, attribute capability is not isolated. It becomes part of the broader quoting and ordering flow.
Common issues
- If sales can select attributes but the price does not change, check the attribute price book first.
- If the price is correct but the result is not displayed, check whether the current list layout supports showing attributes and values.
- If attributes are selected but the final combination result is incorrect, check whether Sales BOM rules are affecting the outcome at the same time.
