Multi-unit conversion rules and limitations
Use this article as a reference for Product multi-Unit prerequisites, conversion rules, and maintenance limitations in different Item modes.
Basic rules
- After multiple Units are enabled, a Product can be associated with multiple Units.
- Conversion ratios for Units within one Product must be unique. Do not configure the same ratio more than once.
- Do not create a Duplicate Configuration for a conversion ratio.
- A Product must have at least one Base Unit or it cannot be saved.
- Unit information is centrally managed by the Unit object. You can use Units such as case, box, piece, ton, and kilogram.
Maintenance rules by mode
| Item feature | Multiple-Unit feature | Multiple-Unit maintenance | Product page limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Disabled | Disabled | Product maintains one Unit only | Multiple Units are not supported |
| Disabled | Enabled | Product directly maintains multiple Units and conversion rules | Maintain a Base Unit and unique conversion ratios |
| Enabled | Disabled | Item maintains public Unit information | Product page cannot independently edit the Unit maintained by the Item |
| Enabled, non-variant Item | Enabled | Product or Item maintains multiple Units for the Product | Product displays the information but cannot edit it independently |
| Enabled, variant Item | Enabled | Item centrally maintains multiple Units | Related variant Products display the information but cannot edit it independently |
Checks before saving
Before saving, confirm that:
- The Product is associated with the required Units.
- One Base Unit is selected.
- Conversion ratios between Units are not duplicated.
- For a variant Item, multiple Units are maintained in the Item object.
Synchronization limitations
- All Products for a variant Item share the same multiple-Unit configuration maintained by the Item.
- After the Item’s multiple-Unit configuration changes, all related variant Products synchronize the update.
- You cannot bypass the Item object and independently edit multiple Units from a single variant Product page.
- Product Price is retrieved according to the Unit and applicable Price Book.
