Maintain product category hierarchies and basic information


Maintain product catalog hierarchies and basic information in the Product Categories list in the CRM frontend.

Before you start

[!IMPORTANT] - Permissions: You need view and maintenance permissions for the product category object. - Prerequisites: The enterprise has enabled product category objectification. New enterprises enable it by default. - Impact: Category changes affect product discovery and display order in later business records.

Create a category

  1. Click New on the Product Categories list page to create a top-level category.
  2. In the target category row actions, click New Sibling to create a category at the same level.
  3. In the target category row actions, click New Child to create a child category.
  4. Enter the product category name and code in the form.
  5. Enter the owner, parent category, category image, description, and notes as required.
  6. Click Submit.

Reorder and edit categories

  1. Expand or collapse nodes in the category list to confirm the current position.
  2. Drag the handle on the left side of a category row to change its order or hierarchy.
  3. Click Edit in the target category row, update the basic information, and save.
  4. Use filtering, search, or refresh to confirm the category record.

Find categories

  • Filter category data by record type.
  • Use Filter to query by a combination of fields.
  • Select a search field and search by keyword.
  • Click Refresh to view the latest category data.

Delete a category

  1. Click Delete in the target category row actions.
  2. Check the relationship impact in the page prompt.
  3. Confirm that no product, item, or price book detail depends on the category, and then confirm the deletion.

How to revert this configuration

Edit a saved category again to restore its information. Drag a category again to restore a completed hierarchy change. Confirm relationship impact before deleting a category. Recovery after deletion depends on enterprise data management policies and system capabilities.

Key fields

Use Upper-Level Product Category, Product Category Image, Product Category Code, Price Book Details, and Record Type when you maintain category data.
