Configure the enterprise time zone and regional format

Maintain the enterprise default time zone and regional format in Enterprise Information Settings.

Before you begin

A system administrator sets the enterprise defaults. The Multiple Time Zones product is required for time zones, and the Regional Formats product is required for regional formats. Employees inherit enterprise defaults when they have not saved personal preferences.
The platform also provides Automatically Synchronize Device Time Zone. When the device time zone differs from the personal time zone on the web or mobile app, the system can prompt for or perform synchronization. This capability is generally available, but it does not provide a complete manual time-zone setting on the mobile app.

Set enterprise defaults

  1. Sign in as a system administrator and go to Setup > Enterprise Settings > Enterprise Information Settings.
  2. Select the default enterprise time zone under Default Time Zone.
  3. Select the default regional format under Default Region.
  4. Save.

Employees without personal settings inherit the respective enterprise defaults. Changing an enterprise default does not overwrite an employee’s saved preference.

Validate the affected scope

  1. Sign in as an employee who has no personal preference and confirm that enterprise defaults apply.
  2. Check date-time, date, time, and number fields on detail, list, create, and edit pages.
  3. Test a time close to midnight or a daylight saving time transition. Check the date boundary and conditions or formulas based on the current date and time.
  4. View the same record as a user with personal preferences. Confirm that the time zone changes displayed local time while the regional format changes its written form.
[!NOTE] A time zone determines the local representation of an instant. A regional format determines how dates, times, and numbers are written. They do not replace one another.

Limitations and troubleshooting

  • Use an account without personal time-zone or regional-format settings when validating enterprise defaults.
  • The mobile app does not provide a complete manual time-zone setting. Automatically Synchronize Device Time Zone only prompts for or synchronizes the device time zone.
  • For an unexpected time, check the enterprise time zone, personal time zone, device time zone, and whether the test crosses a day boundary or daylight saving time.
  • Regional formats affect display. They do not translate text or change an instant or currency conversion.
  • If a particular print, export, report, or component does not change, record it as an adaptation issue for that output. Include the region, field type, page, and expected format instead of generalizing one result to every client.
