Country, region, and address format FAQ

This page explains common management questions about countries and regions, administrative divisions, and dynamic address formats.

Where is Country/Region Management, and what permissions are required?

Go to Setup > Enterprise Settings > Country/Region Management. System administrators and management roles with Country/Region Management permission can access it. If the entry point is missing, first check the current role’s permissions and whether the product capability is enabled.

Can countries, regions, and administrative divisions be imported and exported?

Yes. The relevant buttons are displayed by default. Before bulk maintenance, download the current template and preserve parent relationships and standard codes. After import, check the success and failure counts and the reasons for any failures.

What is maintained on the Countries and Regions and Administrative Divisions tabs?

  • Countries and Regions maintains basic information such as the name, full name, alpha-2 code, alpha-3 code, numeric code, regional format, and international dialing code of a country or region.
  • Administrative Divisions maintains states, provinces, cities, and other levels beneath a country or region, including their parent, name, coordinates, and administrative code.
Verify country or region alpha-2, alpha-3, and numeric codes against ISO 3166 before saving.

Why does a configured address format not take effect on a business page?

Check the following in order: whether the target field is a Dynamic Address field, whether it is associated with a country or region, whether the address format is enabled, whether the target country has exactly one default format, and whether the field has been added to the target object layout.

What is the difference between a form format and a text format?

A form format controls the field order, display names, and required rules of an address component on create, edit, and detail pages. A text format controls the concatenation order of an address in lists, printouts, exports, APIs, and similar contexts.

Does changing an address format rewrite historical addresses in bulk?

No. New records and addresses edited again use the latest format. Existing address data is not automatically rewritten in bulk when the format changes.

Can a country, region, or administrative division be deleted directly?

Disable it first and check downstream references. An administrative division can be deleted only after its constraints are satisfied. Before disabling a country or region, also assess the impact on addresses, account data, regional formats, and other business configurations.

Does a standard Region Locator field use dynamic address formats?

No. Dynamic address formats apply only to Dynamic Address components. A standard region field continues to use its own hierarchy and display rules.
