Convert a lead to an account

Convert a Lead to an Account.

Overview

After a sales rep verifies that a Lead is real and valuable, and builds initial trust with the prospect, the rep can convert it to a formal Account. Conversion upgrades a temporary follow-up Lead into a core asset and starts refined Account relationship management.

Before you start

[!IMPORTANT] - Role permissions: The current employee must have Edit permission for the current Lead and New permission for the Account object. - Lead status: Lead status must be Pending, In Follow-Up, or Invalid. - Deduplication setup: If the system has exact-match rules for Account creation, converting an Account with the same name triggers duplicate-check handling.

Steps

  1. In the main menu, go to CRM > Sales Leads.
  2. Click the target Sales Lead name to open the Sales Lead Details page. Lead details page
  3. In the upper-right corner of the details page, click Convert. Lead conversion > [!NOTE] > If the button is not shown directly, click More and select Convert from the drop-down menu.
  4. In the Sales Lead Conversion window, the system automatically fills Company Name from the Lead into the Account Name field.
    • If the system detects an Account with the same name and backend Account new-record duplicate check is enabled, it shows a prompt that an Account with the same name already exists. Select Associate Existing Account.
    • If no Account with the same name is matched, or duplicate check is not enabled, the system selects Create Account by default. Convert to Account
  5. Select Automatically carry Sales Records from the Lead to the Account.
  6. Click OK in the lower-right corner of the window.

Expected results and verification

  • Sales Lead status changes to Converted automatically. The Lead becomes read-only and cannot be edited or converted again.
  • A new Account record is created in the Accounts list, or the Lead is associated and merged into an existing Account record.
  • Historical follow-up updates, notes, attachments, and other information under the original Sales Lead are moved and shown in the Sales Records timeline of the new Account.

Troubleshooting

  • If the operation fails, check permissions, object status, and target scope first.
