Convert a lead to an opportunity
Convert a Lead to an Opportunity.
Overview
When a prospect shows clear purchase intent, budget, and timeline, the sales rep should create an Opportunity while converting the Lead.
This action sends the prospect directly into the sales funnel, making it easier to follow Opportunity stages and forecast revenue.
Before you start
[!IMPORTANT] - Role permissions: The current employee must have Edit permission for the Lead and New permission for the Account and Opportunity objects. - Restriction rule: If the system forbids duplicate Opportunity names under the same Account, make sure the Opportunity name is unique under this Account.
Steps
- In the main menu, go to CRM > Sales Leads.
- Click the target Sales Lead name to open the Sales Lead Details page.

- In the upper-right corner of the page, click Convert, or select Convert from More.

- In the Sales Lead Conversion window, confirm the Account and Contact conversion information.
- Find Convert to Opportunity and select it to expand the Opportunity configuration panel.

- Enter the following key Opportunity fields:
- Opportunity Name: The system fills a default format such as Company Name - Opportunity. Update it based on the specific project, such as Beijing XX Company - CRM software purchase project.
- Opportunity Stage: Select the current stage, such as discovery or needs analysis.
- Estimated Amount: Enter the expected contract amount.
- Expected Close Date: Select the expected signing date.
- Select Automatically carry Sales Records from the Lead to the Account.
- Click Confirm in the lower-right corner of the window.
Expected results and verification
- Sales Lead status changes to Converted, and the record is locked and archived.
- The system automatically creates the related Account record and Opportunity record.
- In the Sales Execution > Opportunities list, the sales rep can view and follow up with the new Opportunity.
Troubleshooting
- If the operation fails, check permissions, object status, and target scope first.
