Price adjustment range limits

How much can you change a price after the system returns it?

What you can do with a price

In Price Book scenarios, your price permissions depend on several administrator settings:
Operation Default behavior Controlled by
View the price source Always available No restriction
Switch the Price Book Conditional Enforce Best Price switch
Switch Price Book Details Conditional Enforce Best Price switch
Edit the price manually Conditional Enforce Best Price and price adjustment range settings
Edit the Discount Conditional Enforce Best Price and permissions

Enforce Best Price

This is the key switch that determines how freely you can adjust prices.

Switch disabled: flexible mode

  • The system returns the highest-Priority price automatically.
  • You can switch to another Price Book manually.
  • You can adjust the price within the allowed range.
  • The system retains the price adjustment record.

Switch enabled: enforced mode

  • The system enforces the best Priority price.
  • Price Book fields are locked and cannot be switched.
  • The Order follows the configured rules completely.

Price adjustment range

Even when manual editing is allowed, the administrator may set a price adjustment range:
Limit type Description Example
No limit You can edit freely
Floating Upper Price Limit The price cannot exceed a value Cannot exceed the upper limit
Floating Lower Price Limit The price cannot be below a value Cannot be below the lower limit
Two-sided limit The price must remain within a range Within the upper and lower limits

Scenarios where you should not set the price manually

  • The system was recently launched and pricing is not stable: Confirm that the administrator completed the configuration.
  • The Account requests a large negotiation range: Ask the administrator to create a Price Book instead of changing a price temporarily.
  • The same Account’s price needs frequent changes: The Account may not be in the correct Price Book. Report the issue to the administrator.

Impact after changing a price

If you successfully change a price:
  1. Original record retained: The system keeps the original Price Book price as a comparison baseline.
  2. Actual transaction price: The changed price is used for the transaction.
  3. Traceability: Finance reviewers can see the difference between the original and actual prices.
  4. Possible Approval: A change beyond a configured range may trigger an additional Approval Process.

When you need a larger adjustment range

  1. Ask the administrator whether the adjustment range can be changed.
  2. Ask the administrator to create a more suitable Price Book for the Account.
  3. For a temporary promotion, ask the administrator to configure validity-period pricing.
