Retrieve prices by unit, quantity, and validity period
Learn why the system returns different prices when the Unit, quantity, or date changes.
Overview
Price Books do not use only the Account and Product to determine a price. When the administrator enables advanced pricing, the system also adjusts the price according to the Unit, purchase quantity, and current date. The same Account purchasing the same Product can therefore receive different prices under different conditions.
Retrieve a price by validity period
When validity-period pricing is enabled, the system matches Price Book Details for the period that contains the current business date. This is common for promotional, holiday, and temporary special prices.
Example
| Period | Description | Price Book Price |
|---|---|---|
| January 1 - June 30 | Regular price | CNY 2.00 |
| July 1 - July 31 | Summer promotion | CNY 1.80 |
| August 1 - December 31 | Regular price restored | CNY 2.00 |
Create an Order on July 15: CNY 1.80. Create an Order on August 10: CNY 2.00.
Typical behavior
- Orders created during a promotion use the promotional price.
- Orders created after the promotion use the regular price.
- If the date is outside the effective intersection, the system may not retrieve a price.
Retrieve a price by quantity
When tiered pricing or segmented pricing is enabled, the system recalculates the price according to the purchase quantity.
Tiered pricing
Tiered pricing applies one price to the quantity range. The more you buy, the lower the price for that range. The entire Order uses one Unit Price.
| Quantity | Unit Price | Calculation | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-10 | CNY 48.00 | Tier 1 | 48 x quantity |
| 11-20 | CNY 45.60 | Tier 2 | 45.6 x quantity |
| 21 or more | CNY 43.20 | Tier 3 | 43.2 x quantity |
For example, 15 units fall in the 11-20 range, so the total is CNY 45.60 x 15 = CNY 684.
Segmented pricing
Segmented pricing calculates each quantity segment at its own Unit Price and adds the segment amounts together. It is common for data packages and utility billing.
| Quantity segment | Unit Price |
|---|---|
| 0-100 MB | CNY 3/MB |
| 100-200 MB | CNY 2/MB |
| More than 200 MB | CNY 1/MB |
For example, 130 MB costs 100 x 3 + 30 x 2 = CNY 360.
| Tiered pricing | Segmented pricing | |
|---|---|---|
| 130 MB | 130 x 2 = CNY 260 | 100 x 3 + 30 x 2 = CNY 360 |
| Logic | One Unit Price for the entire range | Calculate each segment and add the amounts |
Retrieve a price by Unit
When multi-Unit pricing is enabled, the same Product can have different prices for different Units. For example, maintain separate prices for a bottle and a case.
| Product | Unit | Price Book Selling Price |
|---|---|---|
| Beverage | Bottle | CNY 2.00 |
| Beverage | Case (1 case = 24 bottles) | CNY 45.60 |
When you select a Unit in an Order, the system matches the price automatically. If a Unit has no independent price, the system may convert the price according to the conversion ratio.
Recommendations
- When the price differs from expectations, first confirm the business date.
- After changing quantity, check the Unit Price or total again.
- After switching Units, check whether the Price Book Selling Price changed.
- If the difference remains unexplained, ask the administrator to check the backend rules.
