Manually select and switch price books
Learn when you can manually switch a Price Book in a business document and what happens after you switch it.
Overview
Whether you can manually select or switch a Price Book depends on whether the administrator enables Enforce Best Price. When it is disabled, you can switch to another Price Book price. When it is enabled, the system enforces the highest-Priority price and you cannot switch manually.
Before you start
[!IMPORTANT] - Role permissions: You need edit permission for the target business document. - Prerequisite configuration: The administrator has configured multiple Price Books and allows the current Account to match multiple candidate prices. - Dependencies: You can switch a price source only when the Price Book field is editable and Enforce Best Price is disabled.
Common behavior
Manual switching allowed
When the administrator disables Enforce Best Price, the system:
- Automatically returns a default Price Book.
- Allows you to switch to another Price Book when you have permission.
- Fills in the Discount and Price again according to the newly selected Price Book.
Manual switching not allowed
When the administrator enables Enforce Best Price, the system:
- Returns the price from the rule with the highest Price Book Priority.
- Locks the Price Book field or restricts manual edits.
- Prevents another Price Book from overwriting the system result.
Checks before switching
- Whether the current Account matches multiple Price Books.
- Whether the current Price Book field is editable.
- Whether switching affects the Discount, Approval, or Contract price consistency.
- Whether the system retains the original Price Book price for traceability.
Expected results
When switching is allowed, you can select another Price Book price according to your permissions. When switching is not allowed, the system keeps the best price unchanged. In either case, also check the Price Book Name and price source fields.
