Business documents that support Price Books
Price Books take effect in the following four business documents:
| Document | When the Price Book takes effect | Typical scenario |
|---|---|---|
| Sales Order | Automatically matches after you select an Account and Product during creation | Daily ordering, the most common scenario |
| Opportunity | When you add a Product to an Opportunity | Product pricing during the Opportunity stage |
| Quote | Automatically matches when you prepare a Quote for an Account | Providing a formal Quote |
| Sales Contract | Provides the price basis when you sign a Contract | Agreed prices for long-term Accounts |
Entry point
All documents use the same operation path:
[Document module] > New > Select Account > Add Product > System automatically matches the price
The following example uses a Sales Order, the path most commonly used by sales users:
- Go to CRM > Sales Orders.
- Click New.
- Select Account Name.
- Add a Product in the Order Products section.
- The system fills in the price and returns source information in the Price Book, Price Book Details, Price Book Discount, and Price Book Price fields.

Notes
- Product selection is restricted: After Price Books are enabled, you can select only Products listed in a Price Book. If Available Sales Scope is enabled, the choices are further restricted to Products in the Available Sales Scope.
- Price sources are traceable: Each document has a Price Book Name field that you can use to check the price source.
