Product management configuration quickstart
Configure the basic product management model by checking the item and multiple-unit feature status.
Learning objectives
After completing this tutorial, you can:
- Decide whether the enterprise needs the item feature.
- Decide whether the enterprise needs multiple units.
- Complete the corresponding configuration for each need.
- Confirm that the product creation page and object maintenance relationships work as expected.
Before you start
[!IMPORTANT] - Permissions: You have system configuration permissions. - Business decision: You have confirmed whether the enterprise needs variant items and multiple units. - Validation data: You have prepared test data for a basic product, nonvariant item, or variant item.
Configuration steps
- Go to Setup > Item/Product Configuration > Item Configuration, and confirm whether the item feature is enabled.
- Go to Setup > Item/Product Configuration > Multiple-Unit Configuration, and confirm whether multiple units are enabled.
- If you need the item object, follow Enable the item feature to complete the configuration.
- If you need multiple units, follow Enable multiple units to complete the configuration.
- Open New Product in the Products module. Check whether the page shows variant and multiple-unit settings.
- Check the maintenance entry points for products, items, and units based on the current item and multiple-unit combination.
Expected results
- Item and multiple-unit feature status matches the enterprise’s business needs.
- The product creation page shows fields and entries for the current configuration mode.
- Product and item relationships match the current mode.
- The item centrally maintains multiple units for a variant item.
- Product maintainers can create products by following the end-user guide.

Check the Visible fields and the Enable Status for each feature.
