Product category configuration overview

Learn how product category objects are positioned, what they manage, and which order to follow when configuring them.

Management goals

A product category is an independent CRM object for organizing and managing the product catalog. After objectification, you maintain category data in the Product Categories list in the CRM frontend. You also use categories as related data for products, items, and price book details.

Core concepts

Concept Definition Management action
Product category objectification Migrates category data from legacy backend settings to CRM frontend object data Enabled by default for new enterprises; enabled by an administrator for existing enterprises
Category hierarchy Parent-child relationships between categories Create sibling or child categories and drag to reorder the hierarchy
Category structure style How categories appear when users select products in business records Configure a tree or flat structure
Category relationship Products, items, and price book details reference shared category data Validate relationship fields and data completeness

Configuration order

  1. Assess whether the enterprise needs product category objectification.
  2. Enable objectification and synchronize data for existing enterprises. Check default data for new enterprises.
  3. Maintain category hierarchies and basic information.
  4. Configure the category display style for business records.
  5. Configure object permissions.
  6. Validate data relationships, field impact, and product selection results in business records.
