Product category objectification
After you enable product category objectification, product category data moves from legacy backend settings to an independent CRM frontend object.
Capabilities after objectification
- Maintain category data in the Product Categories list in the CRM frontend.
- Create multi-level categories and view their hierarchy by expanding or collapsing nodes.
- Drag to change category order or hierarchy.
- Create sibling or child categories directly from row actions.
- Relate categories to products, items, and price book details.
- Use the shared category structure on product selection pages in related business records.
Differences by enterprise status
- New enterprises: Product category objectification is enabled by default. Check data, permissions, and product selection results before formal use.
- Existing enterprises: Enable objectification from the backend. Assess data, field, and integration impact first.
Important impact
You cannot turn off objectification after enabling it. The system synchronizes data. It may remove or replace legacy category fields on products, items, and price book details with new object relationship fields. Reconfirm external integrations that use product categories against the actual fields and data structure.
Key terms
In Setup, the Validation Object represents the category data that the CRM frontend manages.
