Configure product category object permissions

Configure access and maintenance permissions for the product category object according to job responsibilities.

Before you start

[!IMPORTANT] - Permissions: You need management permissions for object or data permissions. - Prerequisites: The enterprise has enabled product category objectification, and relevant roles and users have been reviewed. - Impact: Permission changes affect users’ ability to view and maintain product categories.

Configuration scope

Confirm the following permissions in object management or data permission management:
  • Whether users can view product categories.
  • Whether users can create, edit, and delete product categories.
  • Whether users can view and maintain category images, descriptions, notes, and other fields.
  • Whether users can view category relationship fields on products, items, and price book details.
Treat product category as a public object by default. Its default data permission is public read-only. If you change it to public read/write, confirm that only product catalog maintainers can create, edit, and delete categories. Regular business users need at least view permission. You cannot set the product category object to private.

Validation

  1. Use a product catalog maintainer account to view the product category list.
  2. Verify that the account can perform its authorized maintenance operations.
  3. Use a regular business user account to open the product selection window in a business record.
  4. Verify that the account can select products by category but cannot perform unauthorized category maintenance.

How to revert this configuration

Restore the role’s original object or data permission settings, and verify access again with the relevant accounts. Permission changes do not delete product category data.

Key permission fields
