Configure stage tasks and completion criteria
Overview
Guide sales representatives through the required actions at each Opportunity Stage.
Before you begin
Before you begin - Permissions: You need Opportunity Management and Pipeline management permissions. - Configuration: Create the Opportunity Stages and Sales Process first. - Process design: Define the Business Data and Related Objects required at each stage.
Configure an in-progress stage
- Select an in-progress stage in the Sales Process.
- Set the Stage Duration.
- Configure timeout reminders.
- Configure Stage Approval if required.
- Choose whether users can skip the stage.
- Configure the Entry Criteria.
- Configure the Completion Criteria.
Configure a Stage Task
- Create a Stage Task in the target stage.
- Select Edit Object, Create Related Object, or Batch Edit Detail Object.
- Select the fields or objects that the task must process.
- Add required tasks to the stage’s Completion Criteria.
- Save the task.
Stage Task types

When a Stage Task is part of the Completion Criteria, users must complete it before they can leave the current stage.
Opportunity Line Item configuration: To require line-item maintenance at a stage, select Batch Edit Detail Object and choose Opportunity Line Item.
Configure an end stage
Choose whether the end stage ignores standard stage restrictions. You can also require users to enter information or create an object when they enter the stage.
Verify the configuration
- Move a test Opportunity into the target stage.
- Check the Stage Tasks, reminders, and Entry Criteria.
- Test Stage Advancement before completing a required task.
- Complete the task, advance the Opportunity again, and confirm the result.
