Configure the opportunity order closed date and pipeline trigger

Standardize when the system records an Opportunity’s close date and starts its Sales Process.

Overview

The Order Closed Date setting records when an Opportunity actually ends.
The post-approval Trigger Timing controls when a new Opportunity enters the Pipeline for Stage Advancement.

Before you begin

  • You need management permissions for Opportunity business rules and processes.
  • Confirm how your organization uses the Order Closed Date and Estimated Closing Date fields.
  • If Opportunity creation requires Approval, configure the Approval Process first.

Configure the Order Closed Date

  1. Go to Setup > Business Rule Management > Opportunity Management > Order Closed Date Settings.
  2. Enable the rule that records the Order Closed Date when an Opportunity enters the Closed Won stage.
  3. Create a test Opportunity and advance it to Closed Won from the application page.
  4. Confirm that the Order Closed Date is updated.

The rule might not apply when OpenAPI, an import, or a function updates an Opportunity to Closed Won.
For these integrations, update the corresponding date field in the integration logic.

Trigger the Pipeline after approval

  1. Go to Setup > Business Rule Management > Opportunity Management > Pipeline Trigger Settings.
  2. Enable the option that triggers the Pipeline after approval.
  3. Create a test Opportunity that requires Approval.
  4. Approve the Opportunity and confirm that it enters the expected Sales Process.
