Contract basic configuration
Establish the foundational configuration for contract objects, fields, pages, and permissions.
Overview
Contract Management basic configuration determines whether users can view, create, and maintain Contracts. It also determines how Contracts relate to Accounts and Sales Orders. Backend page paths, configuration item names, and field-level rules can vary by tenant. Use the product instance as the source of truth for the specific interface.
Before you start
[!IMPORTANT] - Role permissions: You need CRM Administrator or Contract Configuration permissions. - Business preparation: Confirm the Contract Owner, Related Team Members, Account, and Sales Order relationships. - Impact: Changes to fields, pages, and permissions affect how users create, edit, and view Contracts.
Configure basic Contract capabilities
- In Setup (the Admin Console), open the configuration entry for the Contract object.
- Confirm that the Contract object is enabled.
- Configure the Contract basic information, amount, date, and product details fields as required by the business.
- Keep the sections that users need to view and maintain on the Contract page.
- Configure the related sections for Contracts, Accounts, and Sales Orders.
- Save the basic configuration.
Configure data access scope
- In the Contract data permission entry, confirm the visibility scope for the Owner, Related Teams, and Related Team Members.
- Configure the Contract data that you need to share with departments or user groups.
- Confirm that CRM Administrators can view all Contract data.
- Confirm that the visibility scope for voided Contracts meets business requirements.
- Save the data permission configuration.
Verify the configuration
- Sign in with a regular business user account and open the Contract list page.
- Confirm that the user can see only Contracts within the permitted scope.
- Create a test Contract from the Contract list page.
- Check the Contract creation entry separately from an Account details page and a Sales Order details page.
- On the Contract details page, check the Edit, related order, and Void actions.
- Sign in with an administrator account and check all data and voided records.
Revert the configuration
To revert this configuration, restore the field, page, and permission settings from before the change, then use a test account to verify the Contract visibility and operation scope. Before changing data permissions, confirm that the change will not affect the visibility of existing Contracts.
Expected results
- Users can view Contracts within their authorized scope.
- Users can create Contracts from a Contract, Account, or Sales Order entry.
- Contract details support the required editing and related order operations.
- Void and Delete permissions meet enterprise management requirements.
