Manage system terms in translation workbench
Import, export, retrieve, stage, synchronize, automatically translate, and search system terms in one workspace.
Before you begin
- The enterprise has the Multiple Languages product enabled.
- Your account has Translation Workbench permission under Setup > Role Permission Management > Management Function Permissions > Permission Settings > Internationalization. The system does not require a separate Translator assignment.
- Translation Workbench handles employee-facing terms that already exist in the system. Maintain business-record values such as product and account names in Data Translation Settings. Administrator-only notes are outside the supported scope.
Entry point: Setup > Internationalization > Translation Workbench.

Maintain and publish terms online
- Select the target language and data type, then find the term.
- Enter or correct the target-language value.
- Select Stage to save unpublished changes. The synchronization status remains No, and the employee-facing interface does not change.
- After review, select Synchronize to publish all staged changes.
- Wait for synchronization to finish, refresh the employee-facing interface, and validate it with an account using the target language.

Synchronization takes approximately 10 to 20 minutes. Refresh after processing. If the change is still missing after 20 minutes, use the troubleshooting steps below.
Export and import in bulk
- Filter terms by Data Type.
- Select Export, choose one target language, and select Terms Matching Filters, All Untranslated Terms, or All Terms.
- Maintain target-language values in the exported file without changing term identifiers or the template structure.
- Select Import, choose the language that matches the file, and upload it.
- Review the import result, then select Synchronize to publish.
[!NOTE] Global search results cannot be imported or exported directly. Use a Data Type filter for bulk processing.
Retrieve new terms
New terms enter global search after the daily scheduled task. To process them immediately:
- Select Retrieve Terms.
- Select the data types to retrieve and run the operation.
- Filter or search again after retrieval.

Use automatic translation
When Automatic Translation is enabled in Translation Workbench, the daily task uses machine translation to populate untranslated terms for languages enabled by the enterprise. Newly enabled languages are included in later tasks, and the system retries failed tasks.
Review important business terms after machine translation. This switch is separate from Automatic Translation on the CRM Notifications page, which is a distinct rollout capability.
Search and use translation shortcuts
Global search supports name, translated name, and key. Names support partial matching; keys require an exact match. Search uses the selected language, and filters below the search box do not apply during a global search.
Configuration pages for fields, layouts, field groups, and record types provide translation shortcuts. Default Display Value is used for administrative editing and fallback. The value in a specific language column is what users of that language see.

Validate and troubleshoot
- Confirm that you changed the target-language value, not only Default.
- Confirm that you selected Synchronize, not only Stage.
- Refresh or sign in again after processing.
- If a new term is missing, select Retrieve Terms.
- If the issue remains, record the term key, data type, language, page location, and a screenshot before submitting an issue.
