Countries, regions, and address formats
Capabilities
Countries, regions, and address formats work together to support international addresses. Countries, regions, and administrative divisions provide consistent geographic master data. Address formats determine how that data and fields such as street and postal code are entered, ordered, and combined.
Components
- Countries and regions: Maintain basic information such as codes, names, ISO codes, time zones, regional formats, and international dialing codes for countries and special regions.
- Administrative divisions: Maintain hierarchical data such as provinces, states, cities, districts, and counties under a country or region.
- Address formats: Configure the visibility, order, labels, required rules, line breaks, and formatted-address composition of address subfields for each country or region.
The system includes master data for 249 countries or regions based on ISO 3166. Administrators must still confirm the enabled scope, translated names, lower-level administrative divisions, and address formats required by the enterprise.
For example, a Chinese address commonly uses province, city, district, and detailed address. A US address may use state, city, street, and postal code. Japan uses a different administrative hierarchy and writing order. A single Dynamic Address field can switch formats according to the country or region selected by the user.
Relationships and configuration order
- Prepare the required countries, regions, and administrative divisions in Country/Region Management.
- Configure the address format for each target country or region, including form fields and text-composition rules.
- Create or configure a Dynamic Address field on the business object, and validate entry and display for each target country or region.
Entry points and permissions
- Country/Region Management: Setup > Enterprise Settings > Country/Region Management.
- Address formats: Setup > Enterprise Settings > Address Formats.
System administrators and CRM administrators can use country and region capabilities. Other roles can be authorized according to the enterprise permission model. Configuring an address format also requires permission to manage the target object and its Dynamic Address field.
[!IMPORTANT] Some existing enterprises must still enable the Country, Province, City, and District Management (including overseas country and region data) rollout option before these entry points appear. Whether this rollout is required depends on the enterprise’s current version and enablement status.
Difference from a Region Locator field
- A Region Locator field supports conventional country, province, city, and district selection.
- A Dynamic Address field works with address formats and supports fields, labels, order, and composition that change by country or region.
[!NOTE] An object can contain at most one Dynamic Address field. A disabled field still counts toward this limit.
