Create and edit object change rules

Configure activation, validation, editable fields, and original-value recording for object changes.

Overview

After enabling object changes, configure which fields users can change and whether the system records original values. You also define validation conditions, when changes update the source record, and the conditions users must meet before requesting a change.

Before you begin

[!IMPORTANT] - You must be a System Administrator. - Enable object changes for the target object first.

Configuration

1. Open rule settings

Go to Setup > Object Management > Object Change Management. Find an enabled object and click Rule Settings.

2. Configure basic information

Name: Enter a descriptive rule name.
Activation Time: Select automatic activation after approval or manual activation with the Activate action.
Validation Time: Validate when users submit the change order or when it becomes effective.

3. Set validation conditions

Build conditions with current-object or lookup-related fields. You can also use predefined business validation logic.

4. Set change conditions

Use simple field filters or an APL function. If the source record fails these conditions, the system blocks the Change action.

5. Review Record Type mappings

Review the automatically generated Record Type mappings between the source and change order. Also review mappings for detail objects. These mappings are read-only.

6. Configure fields

Changeable: Lets users edit the field on a change order.
Record Original Value: Creates an original-value field for before-and-after comparison.

[!CAUTION] 1. If a changeable field does not record its original value, the new value overwrites the old value without a comparison. 2. Auto-number, reference, check-in, payment, signature, statistical, calculated, and other read-only fields do not support these settings.

Synchronize source fields

Field changes on the source object synchronize automatically. If synchronization fails, click Synchronize on the rule settings page.

Effects of object status changes

Mapping	Action	Effect
Standard master mapping	Delete source or target	The system deletes the mapping rule.
Standard master mapping	Disable source or target	The system disables the rule. Re-enabling the object does not re-enable the rule.
Master-Detail mapping	Disable some source details	The rule remains editable. Saving removes mappings for unavailable details.
Master-Detail mapping	Disable some target details	The target appears empty. Saving removes the affected mapping.
Master-Detail mapping	Disable all source details	The original detail mappings disappear from the editor, and you cannot click Next to save.
Master-Detail mapping	Disable all target details	Source detail rules remain visible with empty targets, and you cannot click Next to save.
Master-Detail mapping	Delete a mapped detail object	The rule remains editable and no longer shows the deleted mapping.
Master-Detail mapping	Re-enable a disabled object	The system does not automatically re-enable the mapping rule. Enable it manually after confirming both objects are available.
