Use object changes


Request a document change, edit data, submit it for approval, and compare versions.

Overview

After an administrator enables object changes for Contracts or Sales Orders, users cannot edit source records directly. Use Change to create a change order, submit it for approval, and apply the approved values.

Before you begin

[!IMPORTANT] - You need view and change permission for the source document. - A source record can have only one change order under approval.

Procedure

1. Request a change

  1. Open a Contract or Sales Order.
  2. Click Change. The system evaluates the configured change conditions and blocks ineligible records.

2. Edit the change order

  1. Edit the permitted fields. The page inherits the source layout, business logic, Validation Rules, and Layout Rules.
  2. Enter the Change Reason under Basic Info.

3. Submit for approval

Click Submit. Objects with change orders support create approval only.

4. Apply the change

  • Automatic: The system updates the source document after approval.
  • Manual: Open the approved change order and click Activate.

Review results and history

Compare master-field values

Fields with Record Original Value show before-and-after values.

Identify detail changes

New details are green, changed details are orange, and deleted details are red.

View previous versions

Click Change History on the source record to review versions, users, activation times, and differences.

Frequently asked questions

Why does an object still require a feature rollout after purchasing a license?

The license grants tenant access. Specific custom objects may still require the Object Change Order rollout setting. Submit a request at Setup > CRM - Product Rollout Request.

Can I remove the input placeholder from a smart form?

No. The placeholder is part of the standard smart form input design.
