Use object mapping rules


Add a mapping action and use it to convert a source document into a target document.

Overview

After configuring an object mapping rule, associate it with a custom action on the source object. Users click the action to populate a new target record with mapped source data.

Before you begin

[!IMPORTANT] - Administrators need permissions for Object Mapping Rules and Page Layouts. - Users need view permission for the source and create permission for the target. - The mapping rule must be enabled.

Procedure

1. Add a custom mapping action

  1. Go to Setup > Business Rule Management > Object Mapping Rules and confirm the rule exists.
  2. Go to Setup > Object Management > [Source Object] > Page Layout.
  3. Edit the active layout and add a custom action under Buttons and Actions.
  4. Enter a display name, select the mapping rule, and choose the Detail Page, Single-Record List Action, or Single-Record Related List Action location.
  5. Save the layout.

2. Convert a document

  1. Open a source record, such as a Quote.
  2. Click the configured action, such as Convert to Sales Order.
  3. The system opens a new Sales Order and populates mapped values.
  4. Complete required fields and click Save.
