Configure multiple currencies

This article describes the features, operations, and rules of multi-currency.
Multi-currency capability is foundational to BI platform content display and a key development area, designed to support the informatization of enterprise international business. It helps multinational enterprises display multiple currencies in a single chart. Enterprises need to use the customer’s local (country) currency for quotes, opportunity tracking, contract signing, order generation, and payment collection. This article introduces BI multi-currency capabilities and usage instructions.

Before you begin

[!IMPORTANT] Confirm that you have access to the relevant BI pages. Operations involving creation, editing, or management also require the corresponding administrative permissions.

Overview

  • After an enterprise orders and enables multi-currency, the multi-currency capability is supported. Fields are automatically added to preset objects, while custom objects require you to add custom fields yourself, along with chart-level currency switching.
  • Preset BI resources (including preset dashboards, templates, homepages, and metrics) default to analysis based on the “original currency”. An additional set of preset resources based on the “base currency” will be added.
  • Base currency: the enterprise’s home currency, used for financial accounting. It can be set only once and cannot be modified afterward.
  • Original currency: the transaction currency, the currency used when international business occurs.

Use multiple currencies in BI

  • After enabling multi-currency, when creating a report on a preset object, an additional base-currency Formula field appears for amount-type fields. You can choose to aggregate using either the original currency or the base-currency field based on your analysis needs.
  • For custom objects, add a Formula field on the object and set the base currency value: base currency = original currency × exchange rate.
  • In global configuration, administrators can set the currency Conversion Rules: convert using historical exchange rates or the latest exchange rate.
  • On the chart itself, you can also customize the chart-level currency. Once set, all amount-type fields are converted to the specified currency. When creating a new chart, the currency follows the system currency by default.
  • After enabling multi-currency, when creating a new chart, set which currency amount-type fields in the chart should be converted to. Taking a report as an example:

Set currency
Set currency code

  • BI custom reports support a virtual converted-currency field. When you add a custom amount-type field on a backend object and set its currency type to original currency, BI automatically provisions a virtual converted-currency field. The default conversion logic is to convert to the base currency (base currency = original currency × exchange rate).

  • Additionally, when creating a dashboard, you can add a currency component to the dashboard. Through the currency setting in the property settings, you can customize the conversion currency, which affects all currency fields or metrics in all charts in the dashboard.

  • Other: BI multi-currency switching currently supports amount fields including preset amount fields. It also supports preset Formula fields and preset Roll-Up Summary fields whose return value is an amount. It further supports custom amount fields, custom Formula fields and Roll-Up Summary fields whose return value is an amount. Corresponding Reference Type fields are also supported, except for Formula fields.

Expected results and verification

After completing the operations on this page, check whether the display in the corresponding report, chart, or combined table meets expectations. If a field, metric, or operation entry is unavailable, first verify that the selected topic, data range, and permissions match.
