Data Permission Usage Guide
Overview
The Data Range you see in BI charts is determined by your role’s data permission configuration. This guide helps you understand what each data permission scope means and avoid common misunderstandings.
Data Permission Scopes

Common Misunderstandings
Misunderstanding 1: Related object data scope equals the core object’s
In a report, you can see data from other objects related to the core object. When you click to view a related object’s details, the related object’s own data permissions still apply.
For example: You have account view permission, so you can see opportunity amounts for those accounts in account analysis. When you click the opportunity amount details, you cannot view them if you have no data permission on the opportunity object.
Misunderstanding 2: Shared With Me in the personnel subject includes all sharing
The personnel subject’s Shared With Me scope counts only source-based sharing. Conditional sharing is not included. When a chart has multiple indicators, the shared scopes are intersected.
Misunderstanding 3: Seeing a chart means seeing all its data
Chart visibility is controlled by three stacked permission layers:
- Subject domain permissions: Determine whether you can see the subject domain.
- Chart-level permissions: Determine whether you can see the chart.
- Data permissions: Determine which data rows the chart displays.
Even when you can see a chart, the data it displays is still limited by your data permission Data Range.
Common Scenarios
Scenario 1: Cannot see data for certain accounts
Check your data permission Data Range. If it is set to Owned by Me, you only see accounts you own. To view other accounts, contact your admin to adjust the data permission Data Range or request data sharing.
Scenario 2: A chart displays ***** for a field
This means you do not have field permission for that field. Contact your admin to request field permission.
