Create a product for a variant item

When the Item feature is enabled and the Product needs variants, select an Item and variant combination to create a variant Product. If multiple Units are also enabled, the Item centrally maintains the multiple-Unit information.

Applicable scenario

A variant Item is suitable when one Item has multiple Product variants, such as clothing colors and sizes or electronic-product capacities and colors.

Before you start

[!IMPORTANT] - Prerequisite configuration: The administrator has enabled the Item feature and prepared selectable Items and variant combinations. If multiple Units are required, the administrator has also enabled the multiple-Unit feature. - Basic information: Confirm the Item, variant values, and Product business information. - Maintenance boundary: The Item maintains public information such as Product Category, Unit, and multiple Units for a variant Item.

Create when only the Item feature is enabled

  1. In the Products module, click New Product.
  2. Set Has Specifications to Yes.
  3. Select the Item.
  4. Select the variant combination for the Item.
  5. Check the Product Name generated from the Item Name and variant values, and edit it as needed.

Expected results

  • The system creates the Product for the current variant combination.
  • The Product is automatically associated with the Item.
  • One variant Item can correspond to multiple Products, with one variant combination for each Product.
  • The Item centrally maintains public information such as Product Category and Unit, so the Product page cannot edit it independently.
  • When both features are enabled, all variant Products inherit and share the same multiple-Unit configuration maintained by the Item.
  • Changes to public Item information synchronize to related Products.
  • Product Price is maintained according to the applicable Price Book.
  • To adjust multiple Units for a variant Item, maintain the configuration in the corresponding Item. Changes synchronize to all Products under that Item.
  • The system can Auto Associate each Product with its Item and variant combination.
