Standard and custom price books
Understand the differences between the two price book types so you can build a clear pricing maintenance strategy.
Overview
After you enable price books, the system automatically creates a standard price book. Administrators can also create custom price books for business needs. The two types differ in maintenance and use cases.
Standard price books
Standard price books have these characteristics:
- The system creates them when you enable price books.
- They usually include all published products.
- They provide the enterprise’s base price source.
- They do not support multi-unit pricing.

Custom price books
Custom price books have these characteristics:
- Administrators create them manually.
- They support customer, promotional, channel, and other special prices.
- They can support more complex scopes and pricing rules.
- They can support advanced capabilities such as multi-unit pricing when conditions are met.

Usage guidance
- Use the standard price book as the default price base.
- Use custom price books for exception prices and special policies.
- Maintain a product in a custom price book when it needs more flexible pricing conditions.
